about us

The Homeplace at Johnston Farm...how did we come to be? Ours is a story told by history, and our shared futures! The history of our family farm goes back well over 100 years. 100-plus years of making memories, making families, and making a lifetime in these mountains we call home.  Maggie Ozelle Guinn Johnston grew up on this beautiful farm, and knew that one day she would meet and marry a man to enjoy it with her. Joe Johnston later came into the picture, and the rest is a glorious history we built our family and farm on. 132 rolling acres of farmland, then and now, tended and loved, cared for by generations of Johnstons and extended family. Brad and Ginia met and married in 1989, moved into the original farmhouse they call "the homeplace", and there they remain, with their three adult children many years later.

Our vision for The Homeplace event venue is coming to life, day by day. With the building of a winding road through the farm, across the bridge at the creek, and up to the highest ridge on this farm to the breathtaking mountain view all around you. The Barn is a labor of love, with a year of planning and designing all the special details that we want to share with you. To be completed in Spring 2018, Oregon red cedar is our chosen wood, stained to perfection. The Homeplace will not only have incredible features outside, but also a stunning interior that is dedicated to your absolute comfort and delight, heating and cooling the entire 8,575 square foot structure.  The Barn will be complete with Bride's suite and private bathroom, groom's suite, prep kitchen, and public restrooms. Handicap accessibility is key here at The Homeplace, with designated parking and sidewalk that is designed to accommodate all of your families comfort and ease into the building and over to the outdoor altar and wedding site with dignity.
Tables and chairs will be provided to our families, as well as ivory cloths and chair covers.  Our prop closet is actually an entire farmhouse, loaded to the rafters with props, jars, easels, signs, doors to walk through, and much, much, more! With your rental of our venue, you have access to all of this, included in your rental fee. Set up and delivery from the farm house to the wedding site is not included, but we will coordinate with the wedding planner of your choice or whomever is in charge of helping with your special day.
The outdoor wedding area has pews for seating, and benches for overflow seating.
Parking area for non handicap guests is located adjacent to the site, approximately 300-400 feet away, assuring your guests have easy access to the facilities, while also tucking the space away so as to avoid any sight of cars in the photo opportunities.
Our couples will receive all access to the property for engagement photos, wedding photos, and one anniversary photo option of their choice. This exclusive access ensures only couples of the Homeplace at Johnston Farm will be featured in our photography and publications.
